Woman sentenced on drug charges Friday, February 28, 2003 By Chris Post/Senior Staff Writer A Sweet Springs woman, pregnant at the time of her arrest, received two five-year sentences after pleading guilty to drug charges earlier this week in Saline County Circuit Court. Cheryl Ann Rose, 24, was charged with class D felony possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to manufacture methamphetamine and class C felony possession of a controlled substance following a raid on her rural Sweet Springs home. Wednesday, Rose entered guilty pleas to both charges and was sentenced to concurrent five-year terms in the Department of Corrections. Rose was arrested Feb. 2 after an anonymous tip led officers to her house in search of drugs. Officers found methamphetamine, meth precursors and numerous items of drug paraphernalia. Court documents show that authorities were already aware of Rose and the house because of their connection to Russell E. Gilmore, who is currently incarcerated for possession of methamphetamine. While searching the house, officers found a light bulb converted into a smoking pipe and a glass tube with residue, both used to ingest methamphetamine. They also recovered drain opener, salt, coffee filters, funnels and empty cans of toluol and xylene, all used in meth production. Rose arrived at the house during the search and was taken into custody. Officers at the scene found two plastic bags containing methamphetamine in her purse. A 1-year-old infant with Rose at her arrest was taken into protective custody.
