William Carl Grundon was a mechanic and machinist by trade. He was born and educated in Mt Carmel, IL, living there unil 1917. He enlisted in the Army on Sept 19, 1917 at Mt Carmel, IL. His vocation was listed as auto repairman, his character was excellent. At age 24 he had blue eyes, brown hair and a ruddy complexion and 5 feet 8 inches tall. He was assigned to Company E, 312th Supply as #2119150.
He attained the rank of sergeant by March 27, 1918 and left the U S Aug 14, 1918 serving in France and was awarded the Victory Medal. He returned to the U S and was honorably discharged July 30, 1919 with the rank of corporal at Camp Grant, IL. He lived in Illinois all his life: Greenville from 1923-1928, East St Louis 1928-1934, Pearl 1934-1936, Nauvoo 1936-1939, Kell 1939-1944, Salem 1944, and Centralia 1944 to the end of his life.
