Jacob Chism
- Born: VA
- Marriage: Priscilla Howard
General Notes:
Warren Atkinson Notes on Jacob Chism: Jacob Chism, the first ordained baptist minister in Missouri, was husband of Priscilla Howard, and was the father of Jacob Creth Chism, who married Nancy Williams, daughter of Giles L. Williams and Jane Burch. Jacob Chism was born in Virginia, his parents were James Chisam and Mary Howard. James was a Revolutionary soldier from Virginia, who joined of the Mulkey religious group in NC and migrated with them to Craven, SC, where he married the daughter of Obediah Howard, another Revolutionary soldier (who I believe was also a preacher). Most of this group migrated from Union CO, SC, to the Barrens of Kentucky, where they received bounty land from Virginia for their military service. Part of what was know of the Barrens of Kentucky became Barren CO. This is where Jacob Chism first preached, before moving to Missouri and establishing other churches.
Jacob married Priscilla Howard.
