This was not the case as I was born in a tall two story old farmhouse north several miles out of Lamonte , Mo. It was on the west side of the north/south road out of Lamonte. The house was 100 to 200 feet west of the road up a rise to the west. It was granddaddy Vaughn's place. I remember it well as it was very cold and we had a terrible snow storm and I had to have more blankets. The snow got very deep that year. Later on I can still remember playing in the same room I was born in and playing with a toy truck and loading semeiclear plastic blocks in the back bed of the toy truck. I also can remember taking baths on the south outside of the house in a galvanized tub when the weather was better. I can also remember watching granddad make sorgum molasses using a horse or a mule to turn the thing that squeezed the juice out of the cane. The horse walked in a circle and the juice ran into a heated trough and was cooked until it was a lot thicker. This was done down by the front gate to the farm. We later moved to Independence, Mo. and I can still drive to that place today as it is on south side of 23rd street and we lived on the second floor and had to get there by an outside stairway on the south side of the house. That is where I tried to burn down the place by lighting the trash in a can under the kitchen curtains. I also knocked out the kitchen door screen with a tack hammer. I also used it to hit a small kid in the head. The one Christmas we lived there I got one toy that dad brought home and it was a wind up miniture train that went in a perfect circle and the whole thing was only about 10 inches in diameter and made of tin. I can still remember playing with this train in bed. I don't remember having a bed of my own. Later on I can still remember tearing up the train when it wouldn't work any longer and stuffed two of the 1-1/2 inch long RR cars in a heat register in the SE corner of the room floor where we had our bed. I'll bet those cars are still there unless they have remodeled. The head of the bed was on the north wall. I can also remember dad coming home mad as hell when some kids threw snowballs with rocks in them at his car. Ask mom if she remembers these things. I have always told her that I could remember things back to when I was less than a year old.
